Katlego C.L. Twala (b. 2000, Gaborone, Botswana) is a contemporary painter
based in Gaborone, Botswana. Working primarily with oil paint on linen and cotton,
Twala is best known for vibrant figurative portraits and figures that evoke the
techniques and aesthetics of old masters while integrating a contemporary and
universal visual language. A graduate of the Swedish Academy of Realist Art and the
Barcelona Academy of Art, Twala’s work bridges technical mastery with profound
thematic depth.



Katlego C.L. Twala’s work has been exhibited in prestigious venues such as Dorp
Hotel in Cape Town, hosted Brundyn Arts & Culture Gallery, as well as the
Konstrundan Exhibition at the Swedish Academy of Realist Art in Simrishamn,
Sweden. Twala’s paintings are part of notable collections, including those of Dr.
Unity Dow and Elana Brundyn, former Museum Director of the Zeitz Museum of
Contemporary Art in Cape Town. In 2024, Twala received the New Emergence 2024
Art Prize, cementing her reputation as a rising talent in contemporary art.

Twala’s art delves into the intersectional exploration of masculinity through feminist

bell hooks, Freud, and Carl Jung, Twala’s subject matter often reflects complex
